Decarbonization of the steel industry. A techno-economic analysis

چکیده

A substantial CO 2 -emmissions abatement from the steel sector seems to be a challenging task without support of so-called “breakthrough technologies”, such as hydrogen-based direct reduction process. The scope this work is evaluate both potential for implementation green hydrogen, generated via electrolysis in process well constraints. results route are compared with well-established blast furnace natural gas-based reduction, which considered bridge technology towards decarbonization, it already operates H and main reducing agents. outcomes obtained operation 6-MW PEM system installed part H2FUTURE project provide basis analysis. various routes together an economic study Additionally, corresponding hydrogen- electricity demands large-scale adoption across Europe presented order rate possible scenarios future steelmaking carbon-lean industry.
